Introduction

Small group teaching is characterised by its interactive nature, and makes use of exercises, case studies and discussion to build the whole groups understanding and experience. Because of the group learning approach understanding, managing and facilitating the group is a key skill.

Typically the most common group issues arise are those of:

  • Dominant and reticent group members
  • Bored or disengaged learners
  • Late or disruptive students
