The learner must have access to any materials and equipment needed, and the learner is observed whilst using e-learning (prototypes) to complete scenarios. Observations should be objective and measurable and include:

- How many times the learner attempts to complete a particular task and fails before successfully completing it

- The time taken for learners to complete a particular task

- The number of errors encountered and over how long a time period
