How does it work?
There are as many models of reflection as definitions but the main reflective models are Gibbs and Kolb.
Here is the Kolb reflective cycle:
The individual has a "concrete experience" following which they review the experience through "reflective observation". This time spent thinking and considering the experience should then lead to "abstract conceptualism" whereby the individual reaches some type of conclusion regarding what happened, and considers what action or consideration they may make in future situations. This leads to "active experimentation" where the individual plans what they will do in the future or perhaps talks through their thoughts with others to get feedback on their proposed course of action, testing their learning conclusions.
