Why is usability in e-learning important?

To put it plainly, if e-learning is unusable, there is little point to it. If learners cannot achieve learning objectives and gain knowledge effectively and efficiently, then what is the purpose of e-learning?

Unusable e-learning is:
  • A waste of your own time and effort as the designer

  • Often a frustrating and unpleasant experience for learners - more time may be spent trying to navigate and learn how to operate the e-learning software/media than actual learning.

  • Ultimately the quality of e-learning resources suffers with lack of usability and discourages its use. E-learning can be evaluated for usability, and this is called usability testing.
