EGAN
- A 3 stage model of goal directed helping.
- The 3 stages:-
- Identifying and clarifying problems, situations and unused opportunities.
- Developing a preferred scenario.
- Formulating strategies and plans.
ROGERS
- A person centred approach.
- 3 core conditions for a successful interaction are necessary:-
- Genuineness.
- Unconditional positive regard.
- Empathic understanding.

A careers guidance interview is likely to incorporate both models and others, depending on the issues presented by the client. Although Egan is goal directed, it can still be used in a person centred way.
