The Philosophy of Student Support

The University of Leeds has the vision that all students have an "exceptional learning experience" and an essential component is the Personal Tutor Scheme. Medical Students are no different to the other students and this approach has been adopted by Leeds Institute of Medical Education.

Each student has a named Personal Tutor and all students are expected to attend a face-to-face Tutorial at least once a term. Students will have these sessions timetabled and attendance is not an optional extra! Students may also request contact at other times if they have any concerns.

The Personal Tutor is expected to provide both Academic and Pastoral support. The focus should be developmental - helping students to identify areas for academic and personal development so that they can achieve their individual potential.
