Case based discussion
Take student and have case based discussion away from patient and family
- Explore / reflect on what they saw
- How do they know patient is dying?
- Review presence / absence of common sx and how would manage
- Discuss current medicines mx
- Do they think they look comfortable?
- Do they think they look cared for?
- How long do they think is the patient's prognosis?
- Discussions with family around care of dying
- Reflect on what to say - not giving false hope
Check emotional response after - how did it make them feel
